Your diastolic blood pressure is the bottom number on a reading and measures the lowest level your blood pressure reaches in between heart beats. A normal blood pressure ranges between a systolic level (top number) of 120 mm Hg or below and a diastolic level (bottom number) of 80 mm Hg or below.
- High blood pressure is often found during a doctor's visit. Blood pressure is measured using an arm cuff and a special device. If the reading is high, you will come back for repeat checks. High blood pressure will be confirmed after more than 2 readings over more than 2 visits.
- However, abnormally low blood pressure can cause problems such as dizziness and fainting and can be a sign that other serious conditions, such as heart disease, are present. What is Blood Pressure? Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing on the artery walls as it is pumped out of the heart. Blood pressure is measured in two kinds of pressures.
